IV. The Scriptural Cosmic Water-Shield
Another largely ignored fact is that the Scriptures clearly communicate that GOD shielded the universe from His Glory using part of the abyssal waters employed in Creation. This would amount to google plex tons of water!
The Hebrew word "chuwg" (חוג) in the Scriptures literally means "sphere". Older translations, like the KJV, translate it as "arc" or "circle", but it is very reasonably translated "orb", "globe" or "sphere" in many passages. But does the Bible teach that a sphere of waters exists around the remote extremity of the universe? We'll need at least 2; preferably 3 witnesses to effectively prove the fact that chuwg literally means "sphere" in cosmic contexts in the Scriptures. (Deuteronomy 19:15) . "at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established."
Witness #1 = Sh'lomo (Solomon writing in Proverbs 8:27)* In the Words
of the One that Solomon called Wisdom in Proverbs 8:27: "When HE prepared the heavens, I was there: when HE set a compass upon the face(s) of the depth...”
NOTE:
a. This is in a Creation context (logically, cf Genesis 1:1-8) .
b. The direct object of the second phrase is "the depth" תהום-("Tehom")
-- SAME as the term we saw in Genesis 1:2. Tehom means violent abyssal water, and is the object of the action verb used by our Creator: In Proverbs 8:27: "HE decreed a circle", (בְּחוּקֹו חוּג ) literally "described an arc with", or "sphere-ized" the great waters. (Note: Many critics have said that this word only means an "arc" or "curve", but a continually bent sheet of waters does not form a linear arc, it forms a spherical structure). Some have noted that the surface of the earth's oceans are curved around the sphere of the earth, but "Eretz" (earth) does NOT suggest the astronomical context seen in Proverbs 8. The verb here is "chuwg "חוג"-pronounced with a gutteral ch sound . To see that this word in this context is "sphere", see the often-quoted Isaiah 40:22. The proto-universe was surrounded by a protective shell of water during the Creation acts described in many Scriptures.
Witness #2 = Job To begin to establish this idea, we go to a verse
unremarkable on its surface (Job 26:10) where we read "He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end." which is a legitimate translation of the words, but has meant very
little to believers for several centuries. (We did NOT say the translation is wrong; simply, it is obscure.) Please look closely at this remarkable verse: "HE hath compassed (חֹֽק־חָג) the waters with bounds, to the end of light and darkness." "HE (GOD) has compassed -- a Qal Perfect Verb form of חוג--same verb as Proverbs 8:27, quite literally saying:
"GOD curved the waters as a boundary..." Job's words, "He (GOD) stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing." Job 26:7, are a very cosmic thought! Holding this cosmic context, we propose a literal rendering of Job 26:10 as: "HE (GOD) has bound a sphere (חֹֽק־חָג) on the faces of the waters at the outer edge (terminus or limb) of light and darkness."
Asking pertinent questions about Job 26 helps us clarify the meanings:
How? the completed action (perfect) verb says that GOD already did this
by Creative power.
When? ...during the Creation week (Genesis 1:6-8, Day 2)
Where? Well, it definitely is not Earth, but in an astronomical context.
Why? Simply because the Creation needed protection from the LIGHT
(Glory energy) of GOD. The terms loosely translated "day" and "night"
here are NOT "yom" or "laiylah" (literal terms for earth-cycle day and
night), but rather are the common terms for light and darkness
( אֹור and חֹֽשֶׁךְ) -see in illustration here!
The term translated "come to an end" is a term also found in Isaiah 58:12:
“tachlit”, usually translated "completeness, terminus, end.." or some similar word. Since GOD is Light (and a consuming fire), no man can see (Him) and live. Therefore, when He moved upon the faces of the abyssal waters in Creation, letting Light into the darkness (darkness , which He had
created-Isaiah 45:7: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace,
and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."), He purposely restricted His Glory Light by using dark waters as a shield. Light restricted by passing only through rotating disturbances and erupting through immensely thick waters would effectively be "formed" or "restricted", and thus be weakened to preserve plant life (Day 3) and animal and human life (days 5 and 6) in the Creation process. Glory Light that is "restricted" by its passing through the huge gravitational well of universe-surrounding "dark waters" would be red shifted by virtue of passing through the water-shield, but it would still openly show that the "heavens declare the Glory of GOD!" (Psalm 19:1) So then, in Job 26:10. In cosmic context in the book of Job 22:14 we read "Thick clouds are a covering to HIM... and HE walketh in the circuit (חוג chuwg) of heaven."
Witness #3 = Eliphaz in Job 22:14. "Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit (חוג) of heaven" These passages demonstrate the common Biblical historic understanding of a curving "sphere" of dark waters at the outer edge of the Created Cosmos. Translators always have to make "best choices" of terms to use. Curving a pliable surface in all directions produces a sphere in its effect on the overall surface... Gesenius, in his Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon states the Hebrew's belief that Job is referring to “a heavenly ocean.” The lower cartoon graphic of a water-bounded universe shows that water continually curved on its surface becomes a spherical phenomenon:
Witness #4 = Ehud Ben-Yehudah (that this biblical word can literally mean "sphere"). And finally, since there are numerous online gainsayers that insist that (חוג) "chuwg" does NOT mean sphere in Isaiah 40:22, we feel compelled to use the modern Hebrew authority, Dr. Ehud Ben-Yehudah in his Angli-'Ivri, 'Ivri-Angl Milon (see photo): Sure enough, our term חוג is a commonly used/understood Hebrew word for "sphere" ! (English has various words for a 3D round ball, too!).

Time-honored commentators (eg. Keil & Delitzsch) have perpetuated a Homerian universe of a "water-disc on which the arc of the heavens rested" as an ignorant idea repeated by the prophets, saying that “they repeated (but did not endorse) this idea.” WHERE was their Biblical understanding of inspiration? These commentators suffered from revocable PhD degrees. We stand by the literal meaning of these terms, knowing that ultimately the Bible will triumph as the authority over "science falsely so called" (1 Timothy 5:20). Having already noted that the very nature of GOD is pure Light mixed with no darkness (1 John 1:5), the Bible takes us a step further and warns us that His raw energy is to us a "consuming fire" (Deuteronomy 4:24, 9:3 & Hebrews 12:29), so that the people of Israel concluded "Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our GOD any more, then we shall die." (Deuteronomy 5:25) in Judges 13:22, Samson's father, Manoah, concluded "We shall surely die, because we have seen GOD!" and he was 100% correct in so assuming, had it not been for supernatural concessions by the 2nd Person of the Trinity, the LORD Jesus Christ. GOD the Father affirmed "Thou canst not see My face: for there shall no man see ME, and live" (Exodus 33:20). 1 Timothy 6:16 says: "Who only has immortality, dwelling in light which no man can approach to, Whom no man has seen nor can see,to Whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen."
The water-surrounded universe is a literal "tent" for created life to survive in. It is totally surrounded by GOD's Glory, and is intentionally very dark internally.
A cataclysmic event is imminent: Water-shield break-down, (NO amount of water in a shield could last forever while being powerfully stretched!) the Throne of GOD will be revealed first "on the sides of the north".
Is this even possible? YES!
The Scriptures are adamant that it is impending.
